Chad Reed to Race in Melbourne and Auckland

The man touted as the greatest Australian dirt bike rider of all time, 2-time World Champion – Chad Reed, has announced he’ll be back to race on home soil this November 30 at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium as well as making a return to Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on November 16.

The 37-year-old has confirmed he will compete in both Auckland and Melbourne in the Monster Energy S-X Open Auckland and Monster Energy AUS-X Open Melbourne which are Rounds 4 and 5 of the Australian Supercross Championship.

Reed is looking to hit back on home soil in the race for victory at this year’s AUS-X Open.

“I’m definitely looking for redemption, to come out and work hard and just be better prepared on all levels myself, the bike, the team, so I can hopefully take out that AUS-X crown,” said Reed.

“Getting back to Melbourne to race will be awesome, it’s been a long time since I’ve raced there, I love the city, and I’ve never been to Marvel Stadium before so I’m really looking forward to it.”

At last year’s Monster Energy S-X Open Auckland, Reed left the entire field in his wake winning all three feature races to make a remarkable run to victory on the night and says getting the opportunity to go up against Anderson and more of the world’s best riders, helps with his preparation for the 2020 World Supercross Championship.

“New Zealand this year, having Jason [Anderson] also going after the FIM Oceania Championship actually excites me, as it will help my preparation for the 2020 season. Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium gives you a good replication of the gate drops and the tracks I’ll be racing in 2020 [in the World Championship]” Reed said.

Reed also hopes to retain his FIM Oceania crown and says he’s heading to New Zealand better prepared than last year.

“It’s important to retain your championship, and this year to win the second FIM Oceania Championship would be a huge honour. I think we’ll have a much better preparation and be able to come out swinging in New Zealand. said Reed. “Fans in Auckland last year were unbelievable, despite the challenging conditions of the weather, I had such a great time, and the Supercross was amazing, you couldn’t have asked for a better night of racing.”

Australia’s largest Supercross event, the AUS-X Open, has proved successful for the Aussie hero since its inception, including back-to-back wins during the first two years in 2015 and 2016, and Reed says he’s proud to have watched the event grow over the past four years and how it has significantly changed the Australian Supercross industry.

“My favourite thing about AUS-X Open as a rider and an athlete is it’s such a reflection for me, remembering back to when I was eight years old watching all the Australian greats in a Newcastle motordrome, and now seeing it, [AUS-X Open] being held at Marvel Stadium at the highest level makes me real proud to be apart of the sport,” exclaimed Reed.

“I was around for the first ever AUS-X Open in Sydney and I’m really proud to see how it’s grown into Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.”

“It’s so hard to put into words the energy that you get at a stadium like Marvel, a stadium filled with 35-45,000 people, there’s just nothing like it. And really why I still, at 37-years-old, choose to do this as my day-to-day job. I love it, and I can’t replace that feeling and I’m always excited to come back for more,” Reed stated.

The S-X Open Auckland and AUS-X Open Melbourne are rounds 4 and 5 of the Australian Supercross Championship and are sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA).

The AUS-X Open Melbourne is supported by the Victorian tourism and major events agency Visit Victoria and Monster Energy.

The S-X Open Auckland is proudly supported by Auckland Tourism Events & Economic Development (ATEED) and Monster Energy.

Both the Monster Energy S-X Open Auckland and AUS-X Open Melbourne events will form part of the S-X Open International FIM Oceania Supercross Championship, sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme with FIM Oceania status and sanctioning, it will be the most unique and credible international Supercross Championship outside of the USA in 2019.
