JOEY SAVATGY ADDED TO STAR-STUDDED FOX AUSTRALIAN SUPERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP LINE UP FOR FACTORY HONDA AUSTRALIA
The Fox Australian Supercross Championship’s rider line up has received an international boost with today’s announcement from Honda Australia that US supercross star Joey Savatgy will race the entire series for the Factory Honda Racing Team.
The resilient 30-year-old, who hails from Georgia, is excited to be lining up in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive Australian series starting October 12 at Kayo Stadium in Redcliffe.
Savatgy will face off against his Honda teammate and reigning Australian Supercross Champion Dean Wilson. Hailing from Glasgow, Wilson returns to defend his crown following a standout 2023 season, where he clinched the Australian title. Also joining the squad, is former Australian Motocross Champion, Aaron Tanti. An Australian Supercross Championship title threat in 2022, Tanti will be looking to return to his previous form on the CRF450R.
“I’ve always enjoyed racing in Australia,” said Savatgy.
“The fans are incredible and passionate about the sport, and the competition is intense. With teammates like Tanti and Wilson, I know the standard will be high, but I’m excited for the challenge. The Australian championship has grown so much, and there’s talent across all the teams. Seeing riders like Max Anstie and Justin Brayton succeed back home after racing in Australia only adds to my motivation.”
Among the other key challengers is nine-time Australian Supercross and Motocross Champion Matt Moss, who will ride for CDR Yamaha Monster Energy on a YZ450F this season. Moss, eager to add another championship to his impressive resume, will be competing alongside new teammate Jed Beaton. Beaton, after several seasons racing in the FIM World Motocross in Europe, enters the supercross series in fine form, having claimed runner-up in the 2024 ProMX Championship, which saw one of the tightest MX1 title battles in history.
Also, in the mix will be 2023 SX1 runner up and now Empire Kawasaki rider, Luke Clout, who finished his last Australian campaign with a win and will be looking to go one better this season.
AUSX Events Managing Director, Kelly Bailey, expressed her excitement about the exceptional roster of talent secured for the upcoming season and emphasised the Championship is rapidly gaining recognition among riders globally.
“Having Joey Savatgy confirmed to race for the Factory Honda team is a huge win for the series,” said Bailey.
“Not only do we have the best riders in Australia competing but we’re drawing in world-class talent from overseas who see the value in competing here. Riders are taking notice, and it’s clear the Australian Championship is becoming a key event on the international racing calendar, which is only going to benefit the fans, sponsors and industry here.
“And it’s not just limited to SX1. As soon as entries opened, we could see the calibre of talent set to compete in all classes in 2024. It’s shaping up to be the most competitive field we’ve had in decades, if not ever.
“We can’t wait for gates to drop on October 12 – it’s going to be a supercross season to remember.”
With less than one month to go until the opening race in Redcliffe at Kayo Stadium, and demand high for all events, fans are encouraged to secure their tickets today to ensure they are part of the most anticipated Australian supercross season in recent history.
